Mature women are fighting for their place at work
Why are employers afraid of mature women? They have excellent education, professional experience, ideas, willingness to work, raised children, a lot of time and a lot to retire. And yet nobody responds to the sent applications. Anna Bobrowicz is 51 years old. She has not received any invitation to an interview for months. Katarzyna Nagóniewicz is a 49-year-old. She slowed down herself. Together with two friends, they wrote the book « Peseloz » about how PESEL decides about the perception of women on the labor market, how age discriminates on how few offers for mature ladies. Just sit down and cry? And that’s not. When you finish reading this article, you will find that age does not close our career door, make dreams and earn money.
Anna Bobrowicz has worked in trade for years, has experience, many professions in her hand, and yet no one offers her work. « I have the impression that employers, often a lot younger, are afraid of mature women, » he says. Anna writes books for children and publishes them herself. She could go full -time, but he doesn’t want to give up dreams. He plans to open his own place where people will be able to eat something tasty, drink good coffee, talk, read a book. – I know that if I took a safe job now, these dreams would go to the background again and I would probably not realize them, and I want to do it – he announces.
Katarzyna Nagórniewicz, co -author of « Peselosa » in Pandemia, gave up her job. First, she waited that someone would offer her a job, but she finally stopped waiting, found an advertisement and went to Germany as a babysitter. – I didn’t know German, today I use it freely. I am happy with what I do. I am satisfied with my earnings. I want to live at the level I am used to – he says.
50 plus is not a sentence
The fact that most employers have nothing to offer mature women does not mean that life has nothing to offer them. – I think that if someone wants to find a job, they will find it, sooner or later – he adds. « Peseloza » is a collection of experiences of her four authors. It is not a guide that is to suggest how to find a job after 50, but it is to be support for women who also collided with a ruthless labor market and with peselosis.
Mature women do not intend to sit and cry, because young businessmen are afraid of them. They reach for their own and boldly.
– Many women set up sole proprietorships, set up online stores, go for subsidies to labor offices, act and want to move – says Anna Bobrowicz. – It does not always succeed, but still it goes well and then it gives a kick to action – he adds.
And although he sadly notes that 50+ women are often considered old, not following trends, resistant to new products, he sees how fiercely with this stereotype fight.
Women do not give up
– Women don’t give up and very well. I think that system changes are needed. You want us to work longer, you talk about activating seniors, but nothing is done in this direction. Profits for employers are necessary to employ mature people, and after some time they will find out how valuable employees they are. This would reveal the existing trend of discrimination against mature people on the labor market – believes Anna Bobrowicz.
For now, however, mature women are on their own. And it is not true that at a mature age you cannot make a career, success and earn a lot of money. There are many examples, even among women from the first pages of newspapers. Magda Gessler led the « Kitchen Revolutions » for the first time at the age of 57. Katarzyna Grochola wrote the first book at the age of 44. Helena Norowicz became a model, being after 80. Julia Child, the author of read cookbooks, became at the age of 49.
You have to bring yourself happiness yourself
Of course, there will be voices that these are individual cases, that you have to be lucky or meet the right people. Sure, not every mature woman will become a television star, not everyone will appear in advertising, but if we do not fight for ourselves, her work, interesting occupation, then life can sneak out for us. Who would like it?
I found many stories of women on the internet who changed their lives when I was 40, 50, 60 years old, or more. Ordinary women who did things seemed impossible. Renata Jażdżyk after 50. She became an influencer. Her Venswifelife account on Instagram tracks over 450,000 people. When she noticed that there were few accounts run by mature women, she decided to set up her. And she won. She worked in a corporation and as a curator, and today she is invited to fashion events in Milan and London, « Vogue » and « Harper’s Bazaar » write about her stylizations, moved to Great Britain. How he plays with fashion, how she combines clothes, made her recognized and the most expensive cosmetic brands want her to advertise their products on her channel. She proved that a 50+ woman does not have to be invisible. And in addition now he is fulfilling his dreams.
Experienced employees are included
Agencies are increasingly looking for 50 plus models. Only young girls once dominated in warehouses, today you can find more and more older ones. There are companies whose clothes are advertised only by mature women and they are not boring clothes, grayobure, but brave and fashionable. There used to be a belief that ladies of a certain age should not wear bright things, today 60 plus women look 20 years younger than their pesel indicates and dress as they want.
– It seems that the trend begins to turn a bit. I was at a class meeting and two of my entrepreneurs said that there was a problem finding a good employee, that if they had a young and older person to choose from, they would hire an experienced one that they are looking for such employees – says Katarzyna Nagórniewicz, co -author of « Peselose ».
The owner of a private nursery recently told me about her adventures related to finding the right employee. Over the years, she focused on young girls, because it seemed to her that they would be the best to care for toddlers. The girls changed, like a kaleidoscope, some did not want to work, others had a grudge against everything, they argued with each other. Today, Joanna employs three experienced babysitters aged 50 plus. Finally, the staff has been unchanged for a long time, and it is calm and does not have to be nervous at work at work or fools of babysitters.
Dreams can be realized at any age
Age is not a limitation. This proves many women. A great example is Virginia Szmyt, known to a wider audience as DJ Vika. A teacher who worked with disabled children and difficult young people for years, after retiring, became involved in the affairs of seniors, and later came up with the idea of becoming a DJ. She is the oldest DJ in Poland and probably in the world. He is 87 years old, and on his account appearances on the radio and television, being the face of Eska TV, runs discos, played in the Cleo music video.
Of course, not everyone will make a career in modeling, proved themselves as an influencer or run discos, not everyone will write a book, even fewer people will spend it, but everyone can find something for themselves that will give them satisfaction and money, or at the beginning only money, thanks to which they will be able to live peacefully and realize dreams.
