Mattresses can emit hazardous substances
A recent research in children’s mattresses has detected several types of chemicals. Fthalates, burners and UV blockers were identified as the main source of danger. Another study also revealed that the concentration of chemicals in a more crowded environment.
When buying mattresses, we rarely think of what the substances that are harmful to health can be dissolved from the mattresses. But this is a real and significant problem, according to two Canadian research.
Hazardous substances
In a Canadian study where 16 children’s mattresses were tested, the mattresses were heated to body temperature and weighted by about 7 pounds. These preparations were needed because the mattresses emit the harmful substances in other quantities when it is subject to weight and heat. And indeed, the mattresses emitted more chemicals when they were heated and squeezed as if a child had slept on them.
Crowd
In another study, the air of 25 children’s rooms were checked and the results showed that in the highest concentration they found children near the mattresses risky chemicals. The researchers also found that some chemicals involved were more likely to be present in rooms where they were more crowded: beds with pillows, blankets, sheets, bed protectors.

– Choose more neutral colors! The less delicate the color of the fading is, the less likely it is that it contains UV blockers.
– Select: Keep as little sleeping objects in the children’s bed.
