Bredenaar Matthieu Bonne has succeeded in breaking the world record 48 hours walk. Before that he had to walk at least 473.5 kilometers in four times. He took barely 46 hours and 42 minutes. So he still has more than an hour to further improve the record.

Bonne started his attempt to break the world record on Friday at 12 noon. He did that in Fabianice, Poland. The world record has been in the name of the Greek Yiannis Kouros since 1996. Earlier – in September 2024 – Bonne ran 1,044 kilometers in 144 hours, also a world record of the same Greek. Since Friday he has been measuring himself with the absolute world top during the GOMU World Championship 48h. It is a very heavy ultra -run competition that is one of the toughest in the world. The competition was run on a loop of 1,725 meters each. Among the participants were 166 men and 55 women. Bonne was also the only Belgian at the start of the competition. After 24 hours – half so – Bonne already gathered 270 kilometers. This made the West Flemish perfect on schedule to break the world record. Bonne took a six -minute break every three hours. Just enough to recharge for the next three hours. Bonne, however, got more difficult between 8 pm on Saturday evening and midnight, but eventually got a boost when it became light around 4 o’clock.

Never before did anyone succeed in breaking the world record of the Greek. The experienced Norwegian ultra -operator Simen Holvik tried it in 2023. However, he gave up after 41 hours and 30 minutes and went just under 361 kilometers. Bonne previously tried to break the world record in Taiwan, but then had to give up early due to an airway infection. This time he was more successful. The 48-hour record that Bonne has broken is considered one of the most iconic performance in the history of long-distance running worldwide. Later in the year two world record attempts are on the program. For example, he wants to swim the world record for 48 hours and break the world record 48 hours of cycling.
