It is suspected that the disease affected only one fish population – the carrots. Other species of fish among the fallen have not yet been discovered.
The first reports of fallen fish that were observed appeared on April 13. However, single cases have been recorded, and since last week, continuous fish falls have been found on the shores of the lagoon.
Vitalis Marozas, Head of the Klaipeda Department of Nature Conservation, said that environmentalists had taken samples in the Curonian Lagoon last Thursday. Not only carcasses but also water were investigated.
« We are waiting for all the results of all research. Oxygen water is saturated, so it is likely that it is a disease. Only karos are falling, » assured Maroz.
The fishermen raised the version that the mass fall of fish may have been determined by the electric current used by the poachers.
« No, we reject this version. It is not the karos that have fallen from the human hand. There would be many dead other species of fish. There are no other versions, probably because of the disease, » Maroz noted.

The carrots were suffered by oregano
One fisherman confessed that the carrots caught in the lagoon had been brought to his pond, but the karos were drooping.
The dinosaurs disappeared due to the asteroid. Even the asteroid will not eradicate the karos.
Remigijus Dailidė, a biologist of the Lithuanian Maritime Museum, assured that the carrots were suffered by oregano.
« This is a very unpleasant, specific disease of carp fish. Fish oregano, especially caused by Aeromon or pseudomon bacteria, can suddenly spread in nature and cause mass loss of fish, » the biologist explained.
Most fish are fixed in the bays. And in such places, some time ago, water was well warmed when there was 25-27 degrees Celsius in the air.
« The disease will significantly reduce the caravan population. These bacteria are often naturally found in water bodies. However, when environmental conditions change, such as temperature changes, oxygen in water, increased pollution, physical injury, fish suffer from stress that weakens their immune system.
The question is that the disease has spread lightning.
« It could have been that the fish had this virus even earlier. Maybe it was even during the winter. When the water temperature warmed up to 12 degrees, the karosa began to feed. The body temperature rose, so the bacteria began to multiply suddenly, » said R. Carpenters.

Warned not to eat
Karosai is one of the most resistant to oxygen deficiency in water.
« It may be that this summer the karos will fall out in many Western Lithuanian water bodies. Even birds can be worn. All the karos will not disappear. Only this disease is threatened by fish cultivation, fish can fall in ponds.
According to the biologist, Karosai is an invasive fish coming to Lithuania from China.
R. Carpenters reminded that fish falls occur every year in the lagoon. Last year, the episodic drop of fish was also noted.
The biologist stated that there is no way to eat karos from the Curonian Lagoon.
« The heat treatment will not help, » warned Carpeniers.
