Hundreds of thousands of people took the street against Donald Trump’s government on Saturday. Ex-President Barack Obama called on his compatriots to make “victims” for democracy, while the Republicans’ criticism of Trump’s tariffs becomes louder.
After 75 days of Donald Trump in the White House, they came: the first large demos. In the big cities of the United States, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets on Saturday to protest against the incumbent US president and his politics. Against dismissal from federal civil servants, against Elon Musk and « Doge », against « Maga », against mass deportations, against arrests from student activists. And of course: Against the new tariffs that had sent the stock exchanges on a descent. And the United States could lead to a recession.
The organizers, the group « Hands Off » – hands away – spoke of 600,000 people who would have protected in Washington, DC, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and in many other, even smaller, cities, despite sometimes miserable weather. In New York, the amount of demonstrators on the Fifth Avenue extended over 20 blocks. And it was also demonstrated in the U.S. sovereign, for example in London.
