Mass poisoning of students in Szczytno. The cause of norovirus
On Thursday, May 8, at 15:00, several students and listeners reported gastrointestinal discomfort. Medics of the Police Academy in Szczytno gave them help. Unfortunately, in the following hours there were more and more patients. They complained about the same symptoms. An academy doctor was notified, who gave further help at night.

Currently, there are about 1,000 people at the university. Until now, medical assistance has been provided to several dozen people. From 9 to 11 May, classes at the university were suspended.
« At night, the director of the Poviat Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Szczytno came to the Academy, who, together with his colleague, took samples of food and water. All this to learn about the actual source of the problem »-we read in the communiqué.
Sanepid recommended students to remain in the rooms. In turn, commanders are to inform about any subsequent cases of ailments.
« At the same time, by the decision of the management of the Police Academy in Szczytno, preventive measures were taken to disinfect public rooms (including bathrooms, lecture rooms, staircases). We keep all precautions, which is why all disinfecting fluids and masks are issued to everyone, » added.
Norovirus is the cause of the incidence at the Police Academy
At the Police Academy in Szczytno there were mass cases among students and listeners, whom The reason – as the voivode Radosław Król informed – is Norovirus. According to the data provided during the crisis staff meeting in Olsztyn, 10 people required hospitalization, most of which had already left the hospital, and the remaining patients were provided at the university.
Sanepid emphasizes that norovirus is characterized by high virulentness and causes acute symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting and chills. Food samples for analysis were taken, but the test results are not yet known. The authorities point out that cases of incidence are not related to previous poisoning at the Border Guard Training Center in Kętrzyn.
