Mass fittings of stolen boats and cars – 57 arrested
The effort has been directed at organized theft, smuggling and organized crime and of the total 57 arrested 22 were taken in Sweden.
– We know what problems we have in Sweden with thefts from forest machines, GPS from agriculture, car parts, luxury cars that are stolen. This problem is extensive and we see this in several of the participating countries, says interim leader Mikael Eliasson.
During the effort checked over 20,000 people and 15,000 vehicles in ten countries. The effort went on in « a number of days » and focused mainly on ferry traffic but also on other border crossings such as bridges, road networks and airports.
Several Swedish authorities participated in the operation, including Kronofogden, which measured goods for SEK 5 million.
– It has been about cash, watches, cars, boats, a truck and quad bikes. It is quite difficult to evaluate the goods we have seized.
About 100 Crime reports have been drawn up for serious thefts, theft, environmental crime, money laundering and serious drug offenses. The police also seized several kilos of drugs during the operation.
The countries participated in the Baltic Sea plus Norway and Iceland. In Sweden, most people have been arrested during the effort followed by Denmark.
