Donald Trump
In war with the Associated Press
In an open confrontation with President Donald Trump and his government is the Associated Press (AP), which accuses the White House of ignoring a judicial mandate that restores its journalists’ access to presidential events, denouncing politically motivations and incentives. In a deposition before the Federal Court of the Columbia District, AP legal representatives argued that its journalists were still excluded from the group of journalists covering the President’s movements and statements, despite Judge Trevor Mcfaden’s decision. The judge ruled that the AP suffered an illegal distinction, as the Trump government punished him because he continued to use the term « Gulf of Mexico » in his reports – and not the term « Gulf of America », as President Trump has imposed by decree. The court ruled that the White House practice violates the first amendment of the American Constitution, which protects the freedom of the press.
