Martin Pfister is the Federal Council: The political career path
Sometimes second election – and now the Federal Council: this is the political career path of Federal Councilor Martin Pfister
After returning from Freiburg to the canton of Zug, Martin Pfister became a politician in the course of the zero years. A look back at stations and pictures.
Stefan Doppmann asked Martin Pfister for his first election.
When the Baar CVP board was looking for candidates for the cantonal council election in autumn 2002, the name Martin Pfister fell. « Council of States Peter Bieri casually mentioned a member of the board of directors on a train journey: Martin returned to the canton of Zug at the University of Freiburg after his time, » says Stefan Doppmann, then part of the CVP board and now President of the Association of the Catholic parishes of the canton of Zug.
Since he had known him at the time, Doppmann took the phone and asked Pfister if he wanted to run. « He immediately agreed – otherwise that is almost never the case, » says Doppmann. He attributes this to Pfister's political interest and his great willingness to help. «If he was always asked for something, he was right away and never too good for something. He is always concerned with the matter, not about himself, that is still the case, »Stefan Doppmann is convinced. He observed: « Martin also behaved absolutely authentically in his Federal Council candidacy. »
Hope for Beat Villiger
Heini Schmid experienced Martin Pfister in his first election.
In 2002 Heini Schmid and Martin Pfister in Baar went to the CVP for the CVP in the Zug Cantonal Council – and, unlike the Windner, made it into parliament. Schmid remembers how he hoped for Pfister: «Martin would also have made it to the government council if Beat had been elected to the government council. Unfortunately, nothing came of it, because Peter Hegglin moved into the government. »
When counting the votes, Martin Pfister and he were just when clearing election posters. This is characteristic of the Federal Council, says Heini Schmid, who remained on the cantonal council until 2021. He has had the same experiences as Stefan Doppmann: «Martin Pfister is a person who is committed wherever he needs. He is compulsory and responsible and really puts himself in the service of the public instead of putting his person in the foreground. »
