Marquis is not enough not to watch (comment) – SME comments

Our current problem is not whether Viktor Vincze has something to eat.

Viktor Vincze, the head of the Marquis Union, will end, he will no longer moderate in the main news program. Marquis has done with him A quick authoritarian process Similar to the one experienced by Michal Kovačič – and together with Viktor, his moderator colleague Zuzana Čimová loses his job.

Some time ago, when they shut down Michal Kovačič, many people have been choosing the fact that Markíza is a « private company » that can « do what he wants ». I am glad that I do not see this sentence today.

However, there have been new attempts to avoid the discomfort of events in Markiza – and the most common is currently the most common:

We really don’t care what is happening in Markiza?

I understand the failure of the awning. I worked a decade in her news, but at home TV I don’t, so since I am away from it, I don’t see messages.

However, this television exists. And her TV newspaper Each night turns on about half a million people.

The Voyo channel, which Markiza covers many of its shows, including news, has almost a million subscribers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

So the head in the sand does not solve anything at all.

To challenge people to boycott Marquis and Voyo is perfectly fine in today’s situation. I would also like the management to feel sanctions for their behavior on money.

But to think that it is enough to ignore it only for yourself, it is similar to thinking that we are not concerned with the state of elementary schools just because we do not sit in the bench of none of them.

Who is watching the Marquise?

Another popular attempt at positive thinking is as follows: « Only pensioners are watching Marquise, so I don’t care what is broadcast in it. »

This argument does not apply. It is followed by all groups of the population and television is definitely not in decline, as many are talking about – Her sales are growing.

Another thing is that pensioners could care a little more. We live here together. And when someone is abusing the vulnerability of any of us – whether it is the pushing of conspiracies, overpriced pots and disadvantageous policies, or television news, in the background is iniquity – it is always our thing.

We want to live in a well -functioning company, right? We want to trust each other and rely on adherence to the rules.

In developed democracies, journalism is considered a public service – even when it is produced by private television. Markiza is doing business on the basis of a license, that obliges her to specific duties. And it doesn’t matter how it treats journalists who make it.

Who do you need to worry about?

« Vincze is young and clever. I’m not afraid of him, » many people write in the comments today. And it is another attempt to protect your experience and bypass the seriousness of the situation.

I am not worried about Viktor either. He himself said that he could make a living as a pilot of aircraft.

However, our current problem is not whether Viktor has something to eat, but the fact that people with power repeatedly dare to abuse it and we (so far) are unable to put effective resistance.

I wonder how he feels today, for example, Actress Jana Kovalčíková, who took the offer to moderate Let’s Dance after they shut down Viktor. And how he feels the whole staff of this show – the jury, dancers and other performers. They all could express solidarity with journalists (as Adela Vincze did), but they did nothing.

So we don’t have to worry about Viktor, but yes.

This story is not a matter of individuals. It is about the value decline of television with many years of history, the decline of social standards we have relied on, and also reluctance to show our solidarity with others.

It is a story about the vulnerability of democracy in our country.
