Marked the Day of the First Infantry Brigade
At the Straso Pindzur barracks in Petrovec, today the day of the First Infantry Brigade (1st), the largest combat unit in the army, was marked today, the Ministry of Defense said.
The celebration was attended by Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski, Chief of General Staff Major General Sasko Lafciski, Army Generals, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and GS, MPs from Parliament, former unit commanders, military attachees, and other officials.
Commander of the Operations Command, Brigadier General Mirce Gjorgoski, congratulating the day of the brigade unit, noted that this unit is the cradle of libertarian traditions of the National Liberation Struggle, but also a unit whose high criteria and standards in training are dedicated.
« That is why I will proudly point out that this year, when we are five years of our full membership in NATO, it was this unit where standards were created, the criteria for interoperability were built and where the operational capability was often presented to the Alliance partners, » General Gjorgoski said.
Brigade Commander Brigadier General Dejan Kjplakovski emphasized that the first infantry brigade is the primary capacity in fulfilling its obligations from NATO membership, defined through the goals of capabilities.
– Our commitment to NATO remains unwavering and not because it is the only way, but because it is the right way. This year we celebrate the jubilee – five years since full -fledged NATO membership. Five years in which we have shown many times that we are stronger together, whether we participate in international missions, trainings, exercises or help in dealing with the effects of natural disasters – said General Kjplakovski.
NATO medals were also awarded to the members of the 1st Free, which were deployed in peacekeeping missions in the past period, stimulating measures for the brigade, and the best unit in the brigade, recognition that this year received the second squad of the second infantry battalion.
The commander of the 1st Brad, General Kilakovski, in a sign of excellent cooperation and contribution to building combat readiness and training of the unit, handed over to the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff of the Army.
By decision of the President and Supreme Commander of the Army, April 2 is set for the day of 1st, as a date on which this unit assumes the tasks and responsibilities of the two former brigades, making it the largest combat unit with more army.
