March this year in Latvia – the second warmest observation history / day
As a result, March this year has become the second warmest in the history of Latvian meteorological observations. March 2007 ranks first; Its average temperature reached +4.4 degrees.
The lowest air temperature last month was -10.4 degrees on March 17 in Aluksne, while the maximum temperature was +17.4 degrees on March 10 in Liepaja, and so warm weather in Latvia was registered in Latvia for the first time for the first time.
In March, 99 heat records were broken, most of the records « fell » from 6 to 11 consecutive days, when the national heat record was beaten for six consecutive days.
The previous highest temperature in March was 71 new records in 2015.
The average rainfall in the first month of spring was 24 millimeters or 65% of the norm. The most precipitation – 48.7 millimeters – was in Jekabpils, but the least rained and snowy in Mersrags, where only 8.5 millimeters were recorded.
The drought and moisture rates were mostly within the normal range, but some of the stations were moderately dry in March, and in some observation stations in the central part of the country – very dry.
The average relative humidity in Latvia was 79% in March – from 73% in Riga to 83% in Liepaja. The strongest gusts of wind – 24.6 meters per second – were observed on March 6 in Kolka.
