Marcelo says that « there is a degree of great unpredictability » in legislatures
The President of the Republic considers that « there is a degree of great unpredictability » regarding the results that will leave the legislatures, scheduled for May 18, and stressed that he has « to resist the temptation to be an analyst and should wait. »
« What should happen is the president not to be a noise and disturbance factor and wait to, on the day of reflection, on the eve of the elections, look at the campaign, look at what happened and then go further or not – but not right now, » he said in statements to journalists at the Palace of Belém.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa thus refused to anticipate scenarios and now living “a long period of reflection” and that the “word is the candidates, candidates and the Portuguese currently”.
« The president should not intervene, » he said, noting that his experience in « many, many campaigns » tells him that « nothing is defined at the outset. »
« I watched and participated in candidacies that, in campaigns and pre-campaign, which began in a way and ended in another way. Therefore, everything that is to anticipate what is the will of the Portuguese and, before that, what is presented to them and that will determine their will is premature, » he said, adding that « the President has to resist the temptation to be an analyst. »
