« Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol » puts a monument to the Croisette
It is a biopic of a different kind: « Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol » is the name of the animated film, co -produced by the Luxembourg Society Bidibul Productions, who sets a monument to the French writer, playwright and director Marcel Pagnol (1895–1974).
The film was presented in a “Séance Spéciale” at the Cannes Film Festival at the weekend before competing in Annecy in Annecy at the world’s most important festival in June.
The film directed by the Frenchman Sylvain Chomet is a touching homage to a large narrator. His best known works include the novel « La Gloire de Mon Père », the play « Topaze » as well as the films « Marius » and « La Femme du Boulanger ».
While well-known French actors such as Laurent Lafitte and Géraldine Pailhas give the animated characters their voices, 2D animation, the scenes, the layout and the sound post production were created in the Grand Duchy. The Doghouse Studio and Philophon were involved.

Little innovative, but touching
In his film, Sylvain Chomet lets the protagonist, Marcel Pagnol, mentally and figuratively travel into the past. Together with his boy I, the little Marcel, the spectators immerse yourself in the personal memories of the famous writer and filmmaker. This is supposed to write down his memoirs.

« Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol » is formal and may not be particularly innovative of the narrative style, but the film touches on the basis of some very emotionally charged scenes. The substantial dialogues and the pictures show a young man who never gives up hope of realizing his dream and living from his art. A man who, despite a moving career, could never let go of the south of France and his nature.
