You can’t miss Bloomsday this year

The novel tells the story of June 16, 1904. In honor of this and using the protagonist’s name, many cities around the world will be held on Bloomsday celebrations on this day. Szombathely 2025 June 13-16. between 31st Bloomsday Contemporary Art Festival. One of the major partners of the program series is the Mural Workshop and Symposion, which will include 18 episodes of the novel on a large-scale outdoor wall painting. Each year, there are 2 creations for the Bloomsday series of Hungarian and Irish artists, which results in the largest outdoor contemporary exhibition in Central Europe in Szombathely.


The Bloomsday programs are free, located between the « Museum Quarter », the Gallery, the Iseum and the Bartók Hall.

Let’s go around the Queen of the West!


Szombathely, the « Queen of the West », the city of the parks, where the wind is blowing or bells. St. Martin, the guardian of the poor, the converted legionnaire, the later Bishop of Tours. Several Roman emperors visited the city, which shows the importance of the settlement. If we are here, we will walk around the city, show the sights!

1. The famous Saturday weekly markets, which are also known as the city, have been held here in previous centuries.

5th Kámoni Arboretum: Famous for Rhododendron’s collection, but also pine breeding base. Its wooden collection is the largest in the country. A very friendly drawer library works among such fantastic scenery…. Is there better?

6. Skanzen: The Open-Air Ethnographic Museum opened its doors in 1973 as the second open music of the country. Among the residential buildings we find poor peasant, wealthy peasant and noble homes, harrow, hedge and filling houses. In the center of the village is a copy of the late Baroque Perenye chapel set in 1800. In the Skanzen, native Hungarian pets are raised and plants used in folk medicine are cultivated. Old grape varieties and native fruit trees were planted on the village vineyard.

7. Octopus Water Tower: The water tower built in 1926 is the iconic building of the city. The dome of the surrounding park above the canopy of the surrounding park draws attention from far away. The building has a bistro, an innovative, interactive exhibition, with a 45 m high look at the audience.

8. Historical Wall Forskó (Kőszegi Street): A wall painting evoking the important moments of the city’s history is 68 meters long and 14.8 meters high. Not only is the largest work of this kind in Vas County, but one of the largest outdoor wall painting in Central Europe.

9. Adventure City: The largest playground in the country, with the ladder of one hectare, nine towers, slides and rope ladies offers variations of carefree play in the green heart of Szombathely, attracting all children – and their parents for several hours of self -relaxation.

Program Calcade for all summer

Savaria Historical Carnival (August 20-24): One of the largest arts festival in Central Europe. Roman legionnaires, gladiators, firefighters and masks bring color and life to the streets of the « old city ». Concerts, artistic productions, unloading fair, gastro -yard, costume parade are taking place throughout downtown. It is an indispensable exciting program where everyone will find an event.

Lamantin Jazz Festival (June 29-July 5): For the 21st time, the one -week event and improvisation camp will be held at the Weöres Sándor Theater. The genre diversity of co -genres is also presented at concerts and performances.

Museum Night (June 28): The national event series is also very popular in Szombathely. The Savaria Museum, the Smidt Museum, the Schrammel Collection, the Gallery and the Iseum Savariense archaeological workshop and repository will open its doors to those interested.
