More than eight in ten Flemish people drink tap water at home, yet almost half do not put it on the table. This is apparent from a recent study by Aquaflanders, the federation of Flemish water companies and sewer managers. The interest group calls on to consciously put Kraanwater on the table, also in the hospitality industry.

According to AquaFlanders, tap water is environmentally friendly, locally, always available and « a financial no-brainer ». Tap water costs on average 0.7 cents per liter – that is 300 times less than bottle water. If you switch, you can easily save hundreds of euros every year.

AquaLanders ensures that tap water is one of the best -controlled foods in the country. « It is constantly monitored by independent laboratories and meets European and Flemish standards, » a press release says.

« Kraanwater is locally, sustainable, cheap and of top quality, » says Carl Heyrman, general director of Aquaflanders. « The fact that almost half do not dare to serve to guests shows that perception is sometimes stronger than facts. It is time to change that – with pride and a little guts. »

In the province of Limburg, 89 percent of people at home drink tap water, the highest number in Flanders. In West Flanders that drops to 75 percent. Four out of ten West Flemish people serve tap water to guests. Young people between the ages of 18 and 24 are crane water champions: 64 percent of them drink tap water every day.
