A change of personnel is waiting for the statistics Austria at the highest level. Chancellor Christian Stocker Order Manuela Lenk as the new specialist statistical general director of the statistical office of the Republic. The studied sociologist prevailed in a quality -assured, multi -stage selection process that was accompanied by an independent commission, according to a broadcast by the Federal Chancellery on Friday. The decision was made on the basis of a triple proposal, which was submitted to the Federal Chancellor for the order.

Lenk takes over the function on September 1, 2025 for a five-year term-until then, Deputy General, Thomas Burg, will take over the function on an interim. Lenk follows the university professor Tobias Thomaswhose term of office ends at the end of May.

Lenk was in specialist committees at Eurostat

Lenk began her way in the Statistics Austria in 2004 in the consumer survey, was later head of the division « Register counting and corporate register » and from 2017 to mid -2019 headed the « Register, Classifications and Geoinformation ». Then she led her professional path to Switzerland, where she worked as vice director, member of the management and department head « Interoperability and Register » in the Federal Statistical Office. During this time, on behalf of the Federal Council, she established the Swiss Statistics Office as the Datasteward, built up the interoperability platform – the central data list of Switzerland – and directed numerous interminister and cantonal bodies. She was also represented in specialist committees at Eurostat, OECD and the United Nations.
