The former social democratic president Manuela Ferreira Leite will be the agent of Marco Almeida’s candidacy for the presidency of the Sintra City Council, in the next local elections.

Manuela Ferreira Leite is an “unavoidable figure of Portuguese public life, recognized for the commitment and sense of responsibility” and is now associated “with a project that considers solid, led by someone with evidence given in the municipality”, reads in the statement of Marco Almeida’s candidacy.

“I agreed to be an agent because I recognize in Marco Almeida an experienced mayor, with proofs and with a good strategy for the county. At a time when politics requires ambition and commitment to the common good, it is with conviction that me with a project that places the Sintrenses first,” said Manuela Ferreira Leite, mentioned in the same note.

Marco Almeida underlines that the former Minister of Education, Cavaco Silva, and of Finance, from Durão Barroso, « is a national reference » and « having it as an agent is an honor and an added responsibility. »

This will be the third time Marco Almeida was a candidate for the presidency of the Sintra Chamber, after being elected in 2001 on the PSD list led by Fernando Seara, holding the position of vice president for 12 years.

In the 2013 elections, he headed an independent list, in a candidacy against the PSD, was elected councilor and paraded in February 2014. In the following elections, in 2017, he was back to a list of the Chamber of Sintra, then independently gathered a coalition that joined PSD, CDS-PP, PPM and MPT, but lost back to Basilio Horta’s socialist list.
