Manuel Valls expected in New Caledonia, where the path to an agreement is shrinking-Liberation

A third trip in three months, to hope to conclude a historic agreement. Manuel Valls’ ambitious project on the Caledonian file is becoming more and more unreal as it comes closer, scheduled for Tuesday, April 29. From his recovery in the hand of the filein January, the Minister of Overseas multiplied the advances, managing to bring together around the table of independence and loyalists in the cold for years. But his method, made of bilateral meetings and plenary, seems to have reached its limits. This is at least what the positions of local political parties reflect, always irreconcilable despite three months of exchanges.

The desire to reconnect the dialogue, shared by the two camps, is smashed in recent weeks on historical disagreements. Whatever the time spent around the table, Caledonian political parties assume that it is not ready for certain concessions. « No agreement at all costs »continue to defend the representatives of the Loyalists group, the most radical non-independence training, which brought together 600 activists, Wednesday April 23 in Noumea.
