Man wins more than 52 million euros (!) In newspaper shop of Veerle (50): « Maybe crazy, but I first want to buy new shirts » (Sint-Gillis-Waas)

7, 16, 31, 43, 46 with stars 5 and 9. These are the winning Euromillions figures of Friday 28 February that deliver a man between 55 and 64 years old no less than 52,448,679 euros. Never before did anyone from East Flanders have won such a large amount with Euromillions.

The man has been playing with the popular game for more than twenty years and opted for a so -called ‘quick pick’, where the computer chooses the figures for the player. He bought his winning lot in the newspaper shop of Veerle De Block in the Zandstraat in Sint-Pauwels.

« Incidentally, it is not the first time that my store has produced a millionaire, because even in 2012 someone here won a little more than 1.3 million euros »

« As a manager of a newspaper store, you naturally hope that one of your customers can ever win such an amount, but it remains mainly surreal, » says Veerle.

« Incidentally, it is not the first time that my store has produced a millionaire, because even in 2012 someone won a little more than 1.3 million euros here, » says Veerle. « This amount is of course even crazier and I myself have no idea what I would do with the money. I also don’t know who the lucky person is. If a player wins an amount larger than 2,000 euros, both the person and I don’t see that on the screen. Only a report appears that the player should contact the National Lottery. »

It is already the second time that someone can call himself a millionaire, thanks in part to the Veerle newspaper shop.© YJS

The man in question did that too, and that’s how he ended up with Patricia Pen, winner counselor at the National Lottery. « The man had already checked the figures himself and therefore had a strong suspicion, but could not believe that he suddenly had 52 million euros richer, » says Patricia.

« The brand new millionaire works in the service sector and says he really loves his job and nature »

« Despite a few sleepless nights, he stays with his feet on the ground and is a textbook example of a humble and dreamed winner, » said Patricia. « The brand new millionaire works in the service sector and says he really loves his job and nature. The man is approaching the retirement age and is thinking about stopping a little earlier. Also the classic ideas such as investing in real estate, investing and financially supporting loved ones belong to the plans of the man and his wife. »

Canary Islands

The National Lottery does not announce any further data from the winner, although the man does not mention that a trip to the Canary Islands is at the top of his wish list. « And it may sound crazy with such a large amount, but I first want to buy a few new shirts, » said the millionaire.

The largest amount that has been won so far in our country with Euromillions is 168 million euros.
