Man was held prisoner by his mother for 20 years
Recently the shocking case of a young man who was held prisoner became known by his mother For two decades, from 11 to 31 years old. He made his first statement a few days ago, stressing that « he has a reason to tell his story ».
S.’s captivity- whose full name has not been released- began unfolding last February, when it was found in a state of serious malnutrition after a fire that broke out at his mother’s home, Kimberly Sullivan, in Waterbury.
The last time someone saw S. was when they took him from school to fourth elementary school. Since then, it has disappeared. Last February, after 20 years of captivity in miserable conditions, he decided to set fire home, either to escape, to end his life, or just to draw attention. It was his desperate attempt to reveal that he was imprisoned in this house – he was still alive.
The first revelations from police investigation were shocking. The young man was held in a small room in Sullivan’s house and was allowed to eat some bread and two glasses of water a day. He was not allowed to get out of the room unless he had to do some chores for his mother.

« Please call me S. This is not the name my parents gave me when I was born. I choose a new name for myself and will use this name as I restore control of my life and my future. My name is my choice, and it is the first of the many choices I will make for myself now that I am free, « he said.
He explained that he was « imprisoned » at his home since he was taken from the fourth elementary school at the age of 11 « until two months ago at the age of 31 », when he « deliberately put the fire that helped to be liberated ».
« I’m talking today to start the process of recovering my life and to have a reason to tell my story, » he continued.
S noted that he feels « much better and stronger » than the day he was rescued and is « grateful for the care » he received since then, thanking the healthcare providers who « helped and treated him ».
S also had « the opportunity to make his first birthday party », as he recently closed his 32 years.

At the same time, Sullivan, his mother, is accused of abduction of second degree, first -degree attack, face abuse, first -degree illegal restriction and reckless exposure at first -degree risk.
According to the arrest warrant, the door of the room was discovered a lock with a ladder from abroad, but Mother’s lawyer Ioannis Kaloid has contradicted these allegations, insisting that « it is not the evil presented ».
