Man shoots democratic politicians, representative Minnesota and her husband are killed
In the US state of Minnesota, a man shot two democratic politicians and their partners in their homes. The local governor Tim Walz announced this during a press conference on Saturday. The police speak of an attack with a political motive.
The American politician Melissa Hortman and her partner died in the attack. The democratic senator of Minnesota John Hoffman and his wife, who were also attacked in their home, survived the shots. Both are recovering in the hospital after operations. According to Walz it is the same shooter.
The local police force has started a search for the perpetrator in collaboration with the FBI. The residents of the state of Minnesota are warned that the man may present himself as an agent.
« If someone rings and occurs as a police officer, do a few things: first, call the emergency number and confirm that the agent should be there. If it is actually a police officer, the control room can confirm that, » said Mark Bruley, police chief of Brooklyn Park, in a speech to the community.
Manifesto
At two o’clock in the night, the police of Minnesota were called to the house of Senator Hoffman, for reports of Schoten in the home. There the couple was found and brought directly to the hospital, Drew Evans, head of the Bureau of Criminal AppeHension of Minnesota, told CNN.
Around half past three in the morning a team of agents drove to the House of Representative Melissa Hortman to check if she was safe. On arrival there was a police car in the driveway with flashing lights on and what looked like a police officer at the door. That person immediately opened the fire, according to Evans, after which a firefight took place, where the suspect managed to escape.
In a vehicle found outside the Hortman home, a manifesto was found that identifies « many legislators and other officials » as a target, says Brulley. « We immediately sent warnings to the State, who took action to warn them and, where necessary, to offer security, » the chef said.
US President Donald Trump has since responded to the attack: « Such terrible violence will not be tolerated in the United States. God bless the great people of Minnesota, a really great place! »
