Man gets life-threatening after crash against facade, residents shocked: « Half an hour earlier we were still in the living room » (Sint-Lievens-Houtem)
A driver was wounded life threatingly on Wednesday evening after he drove his car against the facade of a home. The man was taken to the hospital. The residents of the house remained unharmed.
The facts took place around 11.30 pm in a bend on Strijmeers in Vlierzele, a part of Sint-Lievens-Houtem. How the accident could happen is not immediately clear, but the driver, who came from the direction of the Gentsesteenweg, suddenly got rid of his lane.
The consequences were great, because the man was injured in life and had to be taken to the hospital. The impact on the home is also large. The facade suffered serious damage, but the residents remained unharmed.
« We had already went to sleep when we suddenly woke up from the blow, » the residents testify. « If it had happened half an hour earlier, we might have been down to the living room and could have finished worse. We almost immediately realized what had happened and our house immediately fled along the back door. »

The fire brigade had no easy task to support the house, because the facade suffered serious damage. « The radiator that hung on the inside of the wall is even a few meters away in the house, » said the residents. The fire brigade therefore temporarily declared the house uninhabitable. « The owners could get shelter with family who lives in the neighborhood, » says the fire officer.
Due to the accident and the strut works, Strijmeers was closed for through traffic for a long time.
