Man (66) with mobility scooter ends up in Gracht on Kernedingsweg: Victim in critical condition (Zoersel)

The man got the mobility scooter over him when he fell into the fairly deep canal at the end of the Einhovensebaan, almost at the intersection with Einhoven in Zoersel. Because of this his face came under water. Bystanders removed the mobility scooter from his body and made his head above water again. A nurse who happened to pass with her bike started the resuscitation.

The emergency services, both ambulance and police and fire brigade, were quickly on site. One ambulance struggled himself in the canal when he wanted to pass a scheduled bus on the Einhovensebaan. Students from the VTI Zandhoven had to leave the bus and step on foot to the next stop to get a new bus.

The victim was further resuscitated by the people of the mosquito and transferred to the UZA in critical condition. Several local residents came to get a story from the police that it has been very dangerous situations with the detour in recent weeks. Yet it is not clear here whether third parties were involved. Witnesses had not seen any other vehicle. The cause is being investigated even further. Possibly the man made an estimation error or he became unwell and ended up in the canal with his moped car.

Another old man who was on the track with his walker also saw his walker ending up in the canal. But luckily he remained dry and his walker was taken out of the stream by another man.
