Fire brigade and police rushed to the Honzebroekstraat in Roeselare on Thursday morning, where they found the lifeless body of a 54-year-old man in his house. His dog watched beside him all the time.
The man’s neighbors have been worried in recent days. « The shutters of his home have been down since this weekend, » says a neighbor. « I had already ringed a few times and called him on his cell phone, but got no answer. It could well be that he was gone with his dog for a few days. »
No suspicious death
When he looked through a Velux window this morning, he saw his neighbor lying in the bedroom. « His loyal dog sat next to him, » said the neighbor. Shortly afterwards, police and fire brigade rushed on the spot. « Because it is a man of a fairly young age and the body had been there for several days, we initially assumed a suspicious death, » says Carl Vyncke, spokesperson for police zone RIHO.
However, the man turned out to have died a natural death. « A good man, but who lived very much on himself. He used to work, but had been at home with health problems for a while now. » (BFR)
