Oostende

A traffic accident happened in Ostend on Tuesday afternoon. In a collision, a 45-year-old man fell heavily on a scooter. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The police closed the busy Torhoutsesteenweg locally for all traffic.

The accident happened around 4 pm in the Torhoutsesteenweg, near the Mac Leodplein in the Westerkwartier district. Local residents and casual passers -by heard a hard blow. « I live nearby, » says a local resident. « I knew immediately that it was serious and went to look. After all, I am a nurse. I saw a man lying on the street. I served him the first worries until the emergency services arrived. »

High -speed

The man turned out to have been hit by a car that drove in the direction of Stene. At that moment the man would have been on the pedestrian crossing with the scooter. According to a witness, the car drove at high speed. That can explain why the driver could no longer stop when he noticed the Stepper on the pedestrian crossing.
