Torhout

A 43-year-old man was injured on Friday when he ended up with both legs under a large cutter while working in a vegetable garden in Torhout. The fire brigade had to free the unfortunate man. His injuries are not too bad because his legs were protected by thick rubber boots.

The accident happened on Friday at 11 am in the Kasteelstraat in Torhout. Behind a part of terraced houses are different allotments that can be reached through an alley. Local residents maintain small vegetable gardens in those allotment gardens. A 43-year-old man was editing a piece of land there with a big cutter when things suddenly went wrong. He ended up with both legs under the large garden cutter. The man fell down and could call the emergency services himself. The call seemed serious because the man called that his leg was stuck in the cutter and he had no feeling anymore. (Read more under the photo)

« When we arrived, we found the man at the end of a piece of land, » says Firemenfvilip Vlaeminck. “He turned out to be with both legs under the large horticultural machine. Fortunately, he had thick eraser boots who have protected him enough. We were able to carefully lift the cutter with united forces to free the man. He was then taken care of by the MUG arts and ambulance officers. Finally, we evacuated him on a stretcher from the gardens to the street. ”

Because his situation first seemed serious, a mosquito doctor also arrived, also for any pain relief. Police zone Kouter also came by. « The man was with both feet under the milling, but luckily his injuries are not too bad, » says Annemie Wittesaele van Kouter. « He was taken to Torhout's hospital for care. » (JHM)
