The man who entrenched himself for a few hours on Monday to the Nieuwe Wijk in Lierde is a 39-year-old Lierdenaar. Because, among other things, he waved a knife, threw a brick at the police and was already known to the court, the police got reinforcement of the special DSU unit.
The promotion started on Monday around 5.15 pm and would take about four hours. At 9.15 pm police officers from the DSU guided the man from his home. That confirms the Public Prosecutor’s Office East Flanders.
« The police received a report on Monday around 5 pm about a 39-year-old man in a house in Lierde, » the public prosecutor reports. « Upon arrival of the police, the man entrenched himself in the house. He threatened the police with a knife and threw a brick. »
« The special DSU units, negotiators and the special intervention team arrived, » said the public prosecutor’s office. « Thanks to the negotiators, people could eventually enter the house and arrest him without further problems. No one was injured. The man is no stranger to the court. He is being heard, after which the public prosecutor will make a decision. » (EDP)
