Malaysia: Huge fire after an explosion of gas pipeline (video)

At least 63 people in Malaysia were taken to hospitals in the country after a large explosion of a gas pipeline managed by the state energy company Petronas, according to authorities.

The fire broke out on Tuesday morning (1/4) in the town of Puchong, in the state of Selangor, in the outskirts of the capital of Kuala Lumpur. According to authorities, those who were taken to hospitals suffered burns or other injuries and had respiratory problems.

The pipeline has been isolated, Petronas said in a statement. According to the Fire Department, the company closed the pipeline valve, which is 500 meters long, while 49 houses in the area were damaged.

The fire formed a fiery tower on the horizon and a large black cloud of tobacco, according to the first images that transmitted news media and videos that were shared on social media.

Reuters correspondent said that the intensity of the fire has been significantly reduced, but the flame and dense smoke is still visible.

Ambulances rushed to the fire area, which was blocked by the authorities.

No deaths have been reported, but the complete extent of injuries or damage remains unclear at present. Earlier, authorities had reported that some people had been trapped in their homes.

Petronas said it is working closely with all the competent authorities to ensure the security of the local community, environmental protection and smooth supply of the country with gas.

The government has set up aid centers in two local mosques, according to Bernama.
