Makronisos passes her own exile

Makronisos looks like an abandoned landscape with the state suffering from characterizations, but in essence it does nothing but renounce the bloodthirsty legacy of the uninhabited hell.

In modern history Makronisos began operating since 1947, during the civil war.

Greece acquired its own camp « Reform », as the torturers said with the support of the king, university, politicians and more. who visited Makronisos and praised the work that was done there.

The place was inhabited exclusively by exiled, citizens and gunners (in scenes) for the purpose of « repentance » by communist perceptions. The exiles experienced an unthinkable plan of propaganda, psychological warfare and physical and mental torture.

It is estimated that about 120 soldiers and civilians died during their detention in Makronisos, while 60 to 100 thousand passed there.

While the Macronissos hell ended definitively in 1961, when the last guards of the most military prisons operating there were left, it was described as a historical place and all buildings on it was preserved, only in 1989, with the signature of then Minister of Culture, Melina Merkou.

At that time, a Research and Study Committee had also been set up … almost 30 years, until July 2019, to declare the entire Archaeological Council as an archaeological site as an archaeological site.

In recent years, the actions that have taken place on the spot to remind human absurdity.

In 2003, the historical concert of Mikis Theodorakis, who returned to the place where he was exiled to go on stage. Ten years later, thousands of people watched Themis Moumoulides’s performance « Mikis Theodorakis – Who My Life ».

In the summer of 2020, at the initiative of the KKE, there was a big concert with songs by Thanos Mikroutsikos and a Modern art work was placed on the island, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the party, and there is the oldest iconic artist with the man who lifted his hand.

In recent years the island, despite the characterizations that protect it – as the Ministry of Culture’s page says – is simply ruining.

It has been left to its mercy and no attempt to restore and highlight the historical load it carries is not obvious. On the contrary, we saw a mander with improvised fences and thrown ice cream refrigerators as if we were in a pasture.

Materials that have nothing to do with what happened there, observed bees, tires, built buildings … Even the 90s abandoned cars have not been removed from the space.

The awe that is caused by the landscape coexists with the shameful picture of our country and the way it treats its history.

Corresponding places or concentration camps around the world would already be visited museum sites, organized, with what is left preserved, at least elementary.

Makronisos, however, passes its own exile. What is reminiscent of many – even today – does not like it. They cannot compromise with the thought of what happened to this anhydrous, exposed to the weather that smells of phrygana and screams. Or worse still want to be deleted from collective memory.
