Majority of the House of Representatives demands debate on case-Arar

The House of Representatives wants to debate in the short term about investigating the ARB case. A majority of MPs voted on Tuesday for the request for this from Gidi Markuszower (PVV). The Chamber does not want to wait for the decision of the Presidium, the daily management of the House of Representatives, whether there should be further investigation.

In the debate, the MPs want to comment, among other things, on the role of Vera Bergkamp (D66), under whose chamber presidency an investigation into the possible cross -border behavior of Arib. The MPs also want to read the anonymous letter that gave rise to the investigation of Arib, and know more about the advice of the national lawyer in this matter, which was leaked to NRC.

In practice it means that the House will debate with the presidium, a situation that rarely occurs. Chamber chairman Martin Bosma (PVV) will have to explain the course of events as a representative of the presidency in that debate. At the time of the investigation of Arib, Bosma was already a member of the Presidium. He then also agreed to the investigation.

Role of Vera Bergkamp

In the Lower House he received more support on Tuesday.
