Maia Sandu convened the Supreme Security Council
The Supreme Security Council of the Republic of Moldova (CSS), convened on Tuesday by the President Maia Sandu, analyzed the measures taken by the state institutions in order to ensure a safe, free and correct electoral process on the country, informs Radio Moldova.
Another point on the agenda of the Supreme Security Council in Chisinau aimed at threats to democratic processes, including risks of misinformation, foreign interference and illegal financing of parties in the Republic of Moldova.
On this occasion, the CSS members were presented detailed reports on the actions taken by state bodies so far to strengthen the security of the future electoral process.
In this context, the president Maia Sandu warned on the danger of information manipulation campaigns, which can undermine the confidence of citizens in elections. In this sense, the supreme security forum decided to intensify the monitoring of the media space and strengthen the cooperation between the security institutions.
Another point on the agenda was to combat the illegal financing of political parties and election campaigns. The authorities have emphasized the importance of transparency of the sources of financing and the firm application of sanctions in cases of electoral corruption.
Also, the problem of cyber security was addressed in the electoral context. The profile institutions presented the measures implemented to protect the IT infrastructure and prevent cyber attacks. It has been agreed on the closer collaboration with international experts and partners for a quick response in case of incidents, according to the quoted radio station.
Maia Sandu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensure a correct electoral process, in which citizens can express their vote freely and safely.
The term parliamentary elections would take place in the autumn of this year in the Republic of Moldova.
