Mae. The relationship with Africa a priority of the external action of Romania
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the celebration, on May 25, of Africa’s Day, a symbol of African unity and the global importance of this continent, informs a statement transmitted, on Sunday, Agerpres
The theme established by the African Union (UA) for marking, in 2025, of Africa’s Day is ‘the year of justice for Africans and the persons of African origin’.
The topic emphasizes the commitment of the African Union to promote freedom, equality, justice and dignity as essential objectives for achieving the legitimate aspirations of the African peoples, by establishing mechanisms for repair justice on a global scale.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs addresses the development of the relationship with Africa as a priority of the external action of Romania, based on partnership and mutual respect. Also, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms the commitment to promoting and respecting the fundamental human rights and freedoms, for the diversity and struggle against racism and any form of intolerance or discrimination.
These priority lines of action were also highlighted on the occasion of Romania’s participation in the third ministerial meeting-the European Union-the African Union, which took place in Brussels, on May 21, 2025.
As a member state of the European Union, Romania’s priorities in the development of its relations with the countries of Africa are based on solidarity, our country remaining engaged in promoting initiatives and projects that allow the development of the African continent. Supporting peace and stability in Africa and providing chances to young Africans, through access to education, represent defining elements of Romania’s action in relation to the African states, as specified in the Romania – Africa strategy: partnership for the future through peace, development and education.
Africa Day is celebrated annually on May 25 and marks the date on which, in 1963, the African Unity Organization was founded, the precursor of the current African Union.
