Macron: Trump’s customs duties are brutal, unfounded and shocking
French President Emmanuel Macron said today that customs released by US President Donald Trump are « brutal and unfounded » and are a shock to international trade.
Macron said Europe must respond to these measures individually in each industrial sector, British media reported.
Speaking during a meeting with representatives of the French industry, Macron added that the response to reciprocal customs duties would be « more massive » of retaliatory measures against US customs duties on steel and aluminum.
Emmanuel Macron today urged French companies operating in the United States to suspend all investment projects in that country until Donald Trump’s announcement of mass increase in European Union import customs.
« What is important is that future or announced investment projects in recent weeks have been temporarily suspended until we clarify things with the United States, » the French president said during a meeting with representatives of the French industrial sectors most affected by the announced US Customs.
Macron wondered what a message would be sent if the main European business players start investing billions of euros in the US economy at a time when the French economy is attacked.
