Macron objects to Palestinian displacement, Gaza and West Coast annexation / day
« We strongly oppose the transfer of the population and to any annexation of Gaza and the West Bank, » said Macron, meeting with Egyptian President Abdelfatah as Sisi.
« It would be a violation of international law and a serious threat to the security of the whole region, including Israel, » the French president warned.
The Palestinian group « HamS » should not participate in the management of the Gaza Strip, Macron said, also supporting the war -destroyed territory restoration plan approved by the Arab League.
« Here I am praising Egypt’s crucial work on this plan, which offers a realistic way to restore Gaza, which should also prepare a way for a new Palestinian management under the leadership of the Palestinian Authority, » the president said.
« Hamas must not have any roles in this management, and it should no longer pose a threat to Israel, » Macron said.
In January, US President Donald Trump came up with the idea of moving the people of Gaza Strip to a permanent life in Egypt or Jordan.
Both these countries and their allies in the Arab world, and governments around the world and the Palestinians themselves categorically rejected the idea.
Later, Trump seemed to retreat from the proposal saying he was not forced.
