Macedonia is one of the low -risk states for tuberculosis. In the last seven to eight years the number of newly registered patients ranges from 130 to 160 annually. Mortality is from six to 15 patients a year, he was pointed out at today’s press conference.

Director of the Institute for Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis – Skopje, Dimitar Karkinski said that this year there is only one deceased tuberculosis patient, but that data from all over the country are collecting.

– Don’t think that tuberculosis patients are some old people living in mountain villages. On the contrary, tuberculosis occurs in both young and city people – Karkinski said.

According to him, it is good that the country falls into countries with low risk for the disease.

– It is true that we have active cases of tuberculosis, we have people who are treated and unfortunately, there will still be people with tuberculosis. It is good that the Republic of Macedonia is in countries with low risk for tuberculosis – 10 per 100 thousand. We are in that group. It is a contagious infectious disease. This means that the problem is not only for the patient who has tuberculosis, but there is another social dimension – Karkinski explained.

Pulmonary Zorica Nanovovic said that the sick complain of cough, sometimes with blood impurities, weakening, loss of appetite and what is characteristic, sweating at night.
