Luxury yacht « Bayesian » is to be recovered at the end of June
It is almost a year Super yacht « Bayesian » At around 50 meters depth off the coast of Sicily – the wreck is now to be recovered at the end of June. According to the Italian news agency Ansa, the plan was confirmed after a meeting with authorities in Palermo by the British rescue company TMC Marine.
The yacht declared as « unsinkable » died in August 2024 in a severe storm in front of the port of Porticello, on the north coast of Sicily. Seven people were killed, including the British entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his daughter.
Death of a diver led to delays
The salvage is considered technically demanding. First, the rear of the 56 meter long yacht should be raised slightly so that heavy steel straps can be attached under the fuselage. The 72 meter high mast is then separated. Only then can the yacht be lifted completely out of the water and brought ashore.
The fishermen had a better instinct than the « Bayesian » captain
The salvage was originally planned for the past month, but was stopped after a fatal accident on May 9: a Dutch diver died on the wreck when working. According to Ansa, the investigation is being determined for negligent killing. After that, many work was transferred to remote -controlled underwater robots. According to the rescue company, however, some tasks of divers still have to be carried out.
Already recovered a few wreckage parts
In the past few weeks, special teams around the « Bayesian » have found and recovered a total of 17 loose parts-including a rescue island case and furniture from the deck. An anchor and the large sailing tree have already been brought ashore.
According to TMC Marine, the protection of people and the environment has top priority in the salvage. Around 18,000 liters of fuel are stored in the wreck – but so far no evidence of pollution has been found. The seabed is still monitored.
