Luxembourg travels to the Jpeee in Andorra with a very enlarged squad
Now it’s official. The National Olympic Committee (COSL) announced on Monday which athletes fulfilled the criteria and were nominated for the 20th games of the small European countries in Andorra (May 27th to 31st). A total of 164 athletes, 34 more than at the JPee 2023 in Malta, go on medal hunt for Luxembourg in the country in the Pyrenees.
The organizers have made some changes to the sporting program that explain the significantly enlarged squad. While two rather smaller disciplines were painted with sailing and squash, in addition to cycling, beach volleyball, karate, synchronized swimming and gymnastics with volleyball, a team sport also returns to the schedule.
Nevertheless, basketball and the 3×3 variant of the ball game take place again, there is a drop of bitterness for the FLBB men. While the women’s tournaments are held as planned, not enough teams have not registered in the men’s area. The players of national coaches Ken Diederich cannot defend their title.
In addition to the 164 athletes, trainers, medical staff and officials also belong to the Lëtzebuerg team, which increases the delegation to a total of 235 people. In addition, 14 referees from various disciplines will travel from Luxembourg to Andorra.
With a total of five Olympic participants in Paris 2024 (Alex Kirsch, Vera Bertemes-Hoffmann, Ralph Daleiden, Sarah de Nutte and Luka Mladenovic), those responsible for the Cosl around mission leader Laurent Carnol hope for a medal flood. As a reminder: In Malta, 66 medals were enough for third place in the medal mirror, behind the host and Cyprus. In Andorra you now hope to climb again in this ranking.
