FLVB men win against Iceland
The men’s volleyball team celebrates the next international game. At the start of the European Silver League, the FLVB selection won 3-0 against Iceland on Friday evening in Bartringen. A few days after winning the gold medal at the games of the small states (JPEE) in Andorra, the team around captain Gilles Braas in Center Atert offered a sovereign performance.
After the Luxembourgers led through in the first two sentences and won them with 25:18 and 25:15, they first had to catch up in the third. Finally they prevailed with 25:20. For the hosts, the Silver League continues on Sunday (6 p.m.) with the game against Austria.
The women’s national team had previously had to take a narrow defeat in Georgia on Friday. In Tbilis, the team around Captain Carla Mulli 2: 3 defeated the hosts. The exciting five-set game lasted over two hours. At first, Luxembourg 25:21 took the lead. Georgia won the next two sentences 31:29 and 25:15 before the guests were able to compensate for 25:22. In the crucial fifth round, they lost 8:15.
It was the third defeat in this year’s Silver League. The competition had started in northern Macedonia for women a week earlier. But it was only to the tournament in Tbilis that the Luxembourgers were able to compete in the best because the gold medal winners of the JPEE were now there. AW
