Luxembourg music sector professionalizes: Minister Thill takes stock
The measures in favor of cultural work and the cultural workers in Luxembourg had « borne fruits » and « the Luxembourg music had never had such presence both at both national and international level ». This is answered by Minister of Culture Thill at a parliamentary request from LSAP MP Dan Biancalana on the visibility of the Luxembourg music scene.
Among other things, Biancalana referred to an article in the « Luxembourg Word », in which the results of a street survey had suspected that the Music professionals of the Grand Duchy are less well known in their own populationBecause there is no range and education.
Even Serge Tonnar is not a term for many Luxembourgers
« After reading the article mentioned by the MP », Thill could « not come to the conclusion » that the Luxembourg public shows an « ignorance » of the national music scene. « As the article itself emphasizes, the small size of the sample does not allow any really representative results. »
The minister would prefer his initiatives for more attention to his own studies and analyzes for the cultural sectors. « In order to establish decision -making on the basis of reliable data, I brought in the bill on July 4 of this year to create a cultural observation center (parliamentary template 8410). As a forerunner of the observation center provided for in the draft law, a cultural observation center has already been set up as a department in the Ministry of Culture, » emphasizes the minister.
Supported by national support and development measures and central infrastructures such as the Rockhal, the Philharmonie or the studio « Luxembourg’s music sector has experienced a real professionalization in the past ten years, which is reflected in a steadily growing presence on national and international stages »
Eurovision Song Contest as an important platform
The minister mentions several initiatives that he sees as the key to the internal and external visibility: the awarding of the Lëtzebuerger Musekpräiser, the support of music festivals, promoting music companies, helping with sound recordings as audible “visitor cards” of music cards and the financial support of associations such as the Alliance Musicals or the Fédération Luxembourgourgeois der Auteurs et compositeur. And last but not least, the work of the export office culture: LX and participation in the Eurovision Song Contest is crucial for more visibility.
Doesn’t it also need the presence of Luxembourg music creators at school? « Finally, in the education sector, the department F (music), which has been in secondary school for over forty years, continues to develop and modernized its offer, » emphasizes the minister. « At the beginning of the school year in 2025, the Lycée Michel Lucius will open a new department called » Gesentung Musicale (GPM) « , which is dedicated to the professions of the music industry and offers young people a training that is tailored to the realities of the sector. »
