Luxembourg disapproved even sharper border controls
Luxembourg has sharply criticized the announcement of stricter controls and more rejections on the German borders. The Grand Duchy disapproving the controls at the inland limits of the Schengen area and is in favor of reinforcing the controls at the external borders, according to Interior Minister Léon Gloden (CSV).
Interior Minister Gloden optimistic about internal border controls
« It has to be avoided that borders are created in people’s minds. Schengen has to live! », He said. « Unnecessary disorders of cross -border traffic have to be avoided, in the interest of people in the large region. »
Luxembourg hopes for constructive exchange
Gloden emphasizes that he had the announcement of the future German Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) to start the border controls when taking office and to increase the rejections to the borders: « I hope for a constructive exchange and good cooperation with Mr. Dobrindt. Nevertheless, the position of the Luxembourg government remains unchanged. »
It must be avoided that borders are created again in people’s minds. Schengen must live!

Minister of the Interior Luxembourg
As a reminder: Luxembourg lodged an objection to the extension of German border controls to the EU Commission on February 14.
Dobrindt announced early decisions
Gloden would like to continue to work for the elaboration of bilateral agreements on the transfer procedure and the police cooperation, « to finally make progress in the normalization of the situation at the internal limits of the Schengen area ».
Whoever loves Schengen has to complain against Germany
Dobrindt had announced that one day after his planned office took office, reinforced rejections from migrants and increased controls at the German external borders. The first decisions should be made on Wednesday after taking office.
In February, the Federal Government had extended border controls at all German external borders by six months to September 15th and justified this with the fight against irregular migration. Inpatient border controls are actually not intended in the European Schengen area.
