Luxembourg could also recognize Palestine as a state in June

In an interview with a French broadcaster, President Emmanuel Macron recently commented on Palestine’s possible recognition as an independent state. Accordingly, a conference organized by France and Saudi Arabia in June can offer the reason to recognize the state independence.

Macron said he hoped that in return the conference would move the participants who have not yet recognized Israel to do so. Countries without the official recognition of Israel include Lebanon, Algeria, Tunisia, Iran, Iraq and Malaysia.

Luxembourg will become part of this conference. The Grand Duchy supports a two-state solution and thus follows the official course of the EU, but ties its recognition to the achievement of a « critical mass » of supporters.

« We are waiting to receive details of the exact date, the process and the exact goals of the conference from the organizers, which could represent a crucial step towards implementing the two -state solution and to recognize the state of Palestine, » says the Foreign Ministry at the request of the « Luxembourg word ».
