Luxembourg co -production wins the Palme d’Ones in Cannes
The Iranian director and screenwriter Jafar Panahi was awarded the Palme d’On, the most important award of the Cannes film festival on Saturday evening for his daring drama « Un Simple Accident ».
The film was created with the Luxembourg Film Society Bidibul Productions. The Golden Palm goes to a Luxembourg co -production for the first time.
« Un Simple Accident » remained a true mystery until the world premiere on Tuesday, since until then it has hardly made any information about production to the public. Because the film by the renowned director – Panahi has already been awarded the Golden Lion in Venice and the Golden Bear in Berlin – was secretly and without permission in Iran.

In it, the filmmaker, who has been personally present at one of the most important film festivals in the world for over 15 years, speaks against the system in his home country. Panahi is known for his regime -critical films – which is why he was sentenced to a prison sentence in Iran and was banned with a long -term ban on profession.

Highly political and intensive 24-hour drama
His latest work, « un simple accident », is again highly political. Jafar Panahi inspired his experience in prison to make this film, as he explained at a press conference in Cannes.
In this intensive 24-hour drama, however, it is not only the political message that is particularly decisive. The way Jafar Panahi tells the story about the effects of the radical and violent regime in Iran is also unique.
