Lusiaves loses seal of animal welfare after disclosure of images with mistreatment
Lusiaves has temporarily lost the animal welfare seal following the release of images with dozens of killed or dead chickens.
The company can only try to recover the certification from August, said Welfair, responsible for the attribution of the seal, to the Lusa Agency.
« On March 17, we temporarily decided to suspend the certification by August 2025. (The company) was against this decision, claiming that it was an episode involving four workers, » said Welfair official source.
The images were released on the association’s Instagram over the weekend, and was captured in November in a Lusiaves exploration in Figueira da Foz, and show workers to assault the animals, as well as dozens of injured chickens and dead.
The company underlined the Lusa agency that not all published images were captured in the poultry exploration of Quinta de Matinhos’, but confirmed the opening of an inquiry process that resulted in the suspension of four employees, in the face of « practices contrary to animal welfare, committed to the company’s total default. »
Lusiaves also said that it developed inquiries in other exploits located in that county, but did not identify situations that would afford animal welfare and that the case of Quinta de Matinhos was an “isolated episode” and attributable to the four employees.
The company may try to recover the seal, but only from August. For this, you will have to request a new certification, a new audit, as well as to comply with all the standards required by this entity.
