Lukashenko invites 150,000 Pakistan migrant workers / day
Shariff stayed on an official visit to Minsk on April 10 and April 11. During the visit, several agreements were concluded, from military cooperation to trade. Among other things, Lukashenko suggested that Belarus could accommodate up to 150,000 Pakistanis to reduce the growing labor shortage in the country.
« There are many people in Pakistan who want and are ready to work in Belarus, » Lukashenko said at a joint press conference, stressing that Belarus will create the necessary conditions for their employment. According to Belarus, there are more than 198,000 vacant jobs in the country.
Lukashenko’s idea of worried in neighboring countries and not for no reason. Since 2021, thousands of illegal immigrants, mainly from the Middle East, are trying to enter the European Union (EU) from Belarus, crossing the Polish border illegally. Similar pressure, though less ambitious, is experienced by Lithuania and Latvia, as well as Finland. Illegal immigrants are organized by Belarus and Russia, using it as a hybrid war method.
During Shariff’s visit, Belarus and Pakistan signed a military cooperation agreement and guidelines for cooperation in the Defense and Industry sectors by 2027, as well as other contracts and economic memoranda.
However, data on the sales of both countries were not disclosed. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry last reported annual bilateral trade with Pakistan in 2020, stating that trade ranges from $ 50 to $ 65 million, far from the promise of 2015 to raise trade turnover between the two countries to one billion US dollars.
