Luc Frieden, from the Leyen, Metsola and Costa celebrate Europe Day in Luxembourg
As part of the celebrations for the Europe Day on May 9, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and the President of the European Council, António Costa, together with Prime Minister Luc Frieden, was born in Robert Schuman in Luxembourg City.
After a tour of the historical house and the solemn entry in the Golden Book, the EU top representatives in the garden of the Schuman-Haus kept short speeches on the importance of the European project. The spirit of Schuman was again recognized as the pioneer of European unification.
In a joint statement they write: « Robert Schuman was a visionary. Only five years after a war that torn our continent, he decided to write a story – not of revenge or rival, but of peace and reconciliation. (…) Our Union was born as a peace project. And that is exactly what it is – more than ever today. »
When Robert Schuman paved the way for the European unification work
In the afternoon, the traditional « Marche Robert Schuman » led the delegation and the press to central European memorial locations of the capital – from the Schuman monument to the panorama of the Pfaffenthal to the Cercle Cité. The symbolic tour ended on Place de Metz, the former seat of the High Authority of the Montanion.
