LOSP will call for the announcement of an emergency in the areas of floods in Vidzeme and Latgale / day
A letter to the ministry calls for a meeting of the crisis management group on the announcement of an emergency situation in the LOSP in the flood areas in the coming days.
The Council emphasizes that several rural areas have flooded, destroying the planned harvest.
Guntis Gutmanis, Chairman of the Board of LOSP, points out that there is a crisis in the affected areas at the moment, and that farmers need support to continue their work and save the unbleached harvest.
He also notes that farmers are currently doing their best to recover from the flood as soon as possible, but it is important to involve the government’s situation.
Gutman notes that the meeting needs to be convened to deal with insurance issues, provision of support, and other processes related to existing farmers’ credit obligations, planned work and obligations regarding the requirements of institutions to ensure the full registration of the situation, reporting and clarification.
Similarly, according to him, the meeting needs to be convened to provide institutions with the opportunity to provide support for farmers in the crisis.
« A few days ago, we looked cautiously on changing weather, but with the hope that they would improve. However, a number of Latvian farmers have been facing significant floods. This is like a natural disaster judgment for sowing and farmers’ work so far.
Agita Hauka, Member of the Board of LOSP and Chairman of the Board of LZF, emphasizes that in such crisis situations, it is important to individually assess the losses caused by the floods of each farm so that it is critical of support to the hosts to ensure survival of these farms.
The Council calls on farmers to send photos and video to the Rural Support Service with fixed flood damage to record information on the damage and losses caused by floods in a timely manner, collecting information and creating statistics.
The LOSP is a association that brings together more than 50 nationwide manufacturers and processors’ non -governmental organizations that cover the entire territory of Latvia and all production sectors. The organization formulates the views of united farmers for the protection of the interests of producers and further negotiations with public administration institutions, as well as other cooperation partners.
