Los Angeles, a powder barrel. Trump: « Bring the troops !!! »
Tensions have increased at Los Angeles. The troops of the National Guard were held in Los Angeles, the American state of California, on Sunday, against the background of protests compared to anti -immigration raids and despite the objections of the governor of this state, Gavin Newsom. US authorities have declared the entire area of Los Angeles, an area of »illegal assembly » after the third consecutive day of clashes between protesters and law enforcement, triggered by the repression against US President Donald Trump, the DPA reports on Monday.
« You have to leave the area immediately, » wrote the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on the X platform in the early hours of Monday.
During the weekend, 56 people were arrested in connection with the ongoing protests, according to police data.
The head of the police, Jim McDonnell, was quoted by the American press, warning that « the number of arrests so far is nothing compared to what is to come. »
On Sunday, tensions increased dramatically according to Trump’s order to carry out the National Guard and, in controversy, to mobilize the regular military forces – despite the opposition of local officials.
Thousands of protesters flooded the streets in response to unprecedented unfolding. The people of the law responded with tear gas, rubber bullets and flash-bang grenades, which produce temporary deafness, in an effort to disperse the crowds.
However, the rest of the metropolis continued to operate largely, apart from the isolated areas in the center of the city where the disorders occurred.
The protests started on Friday after agents of the Immigration and Customs Service (ICE) executed search warrants throughout the city, given that Trump has promoted the objective of mass deportation of immigrants without documents.
California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, accused the Trump administration of deliberately challenging the climbing and that he acted illegally in the effort to present the president as a powerful leader.
The Democrat Governor – considered a potential candidate for the presidential race of 2028 – announced that his state will sue the federal government.
Newsom made the request in a letter addressed to the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and then distributed on the X platform, Agerpres reports.
‘I had no problem until Trump got involved. This is a serious violation of the state sovereignty – the ignition of tensions while withdrawing the resources from which they are actually necessary, « wrote Newsom.
« Cancel the order. Play California’s control, » the governor advocated.
Trump signed on Saturday a memorandum on the conduct of 2,000 soldiers from the National Guard « to address the wickedness that was left to aggravate, » the White House said.
An expert quoted by The New York Times said that it is the first time in the last 60 years when a president is carrying out the National Guard without the agreement of the Governor of that state.
The last case of this kind was registered in 1965, when President Lyndon B. Johnson used troops to protect the predominantly color protesters during the Alabama civil rights movement.
Trump says Los Angeles « was invaded »
In a post on the SA Truth Social network, Trump said Los Angeles was « invaded and occupied by illegal and criminals. »
« Now, violent and insurrectionist crowds are roaring and attacking our federal agents to try to stop our deportation operations. But these illegal revolts only strengthen our decision, » he wrote.
Trump ordered his officials to « take all the necessary measures to release Los Angeles from the invasion of the migrants and to put an end to these revolts of the migrants. »
« The order will be restored, the illegal migrants will be expelled and Los Angeles will be released, » he added.
Asked if Los Angeles needs the National Guard, the head of the Los Angeles Police Department, Jim McDonnell replied: « Given what happened tonight, the situation got out of control. »
Donald Trump reacted.
« Jim McDonnell, the highly respected boss of LAPD, has just stated that the protesters become more and more aggressive and that he will have to » re -evaluate the situation « in terms of bringing troops. You should do it right now !!! Do not let these hooligans escape the fairy tale. Make Great America again !!! ”, Trump posted on Monday morning on Social Truth.
The American leader sent two more messages: « The situation looks very bad in bringing the troops !!! » And « Arrest people with masks now! »
The Trump administration has threatened to carry out regular armed forces internally, which would represent an even more serious breach of rules, DPA comments.
The Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said that if necessary, American marine rifles could be mobilized in California.
Newsom condemned Hegseth’s threat of carrying out American soldiers against their own citizens in the US territory, calling it « disturbed behavior », in a post on X.
Hegseth responded to Newsom on X, declaring that the national guard « and the marine kids, if necessary, » are with ICE.
« There is sufficient space for peaceful protests, but zero tolerance for attacking federal agents that do their job, » he wrote.
The US North Command has reported that about 500 marine kids are « in preparation for development » in case it will be needed.
