Loretta Schrijver was a pioneer and loved RTL arch image

A warm personality with a beautiful, characteristic voice. Loretta Schrijver was one of the figureheads and pioneers of RTL. She worked from the very first broadcast in October 1989 for the commercial broadcaster; With interruptions for a period of 35 years. Loretta Schrijver was born in New York in 1956, came to Amsterdam as a toddler and has since moved several times as a child, including to Venlo, Zandvoort and Hollywood. Her mother Aletta Visser was a beautician, her father Max Schrijver was a Jewish textile trader who suppressed his war traumas with humor. He died in 1989 and did not experience the success of his only daughter anymore. As a teenager, she fell in love with a friend of her father, the two times as old Lou Vaz Diaz. After she left the house, the two had a short, secret affair. Twenty years later she came across Vaz Diaz again. This time he stayed with her for thirty years until the end. The writer lived until she fell ill apart from her loved one, consciously was childless and crazy about her dogs.

She wanted to become a toilet lady or actress. For the school newspaper she interviewed actors such as Piet Römer and Lex Goudsmit. At school she liked to read plays by Miller and Shakespeare. Actress Ank van der Moer was her great example. She was rejected twice for the theater school. When she had a relationship with actor Dick Nooij, she worked for a while as a proposalist at the Amsterdam’s theater of his mother Beppie Nooij. She also got a roll as a sex worker in the movie in the late 1970s Rooie Sien.

She went to study translations and history, then worked in the NOS subtitles department, and from 1982 as a radio presenter at the Wereldomroep. There she met Jeroen Pauw, with whom she got a relationship. In 2016, writer was knighted, including for her commitment to the environment and for the AAP Foundation, a European animal welfare organization. She was also an ambassador for the World Wildlife Fund and World Animal Protection. In a reaction to her death, the director called her one of the largest animal lovers in the Netherlands. « She did not shy away from speaking against animal suffering. Whether it was wild animals in captivity, stray dogs or animals in the cattle industry: she stood right in front of all animals and their suffering touched her deep. »

Writer actually found himself totally unsuitable for television life. « I’m pretty shy, » writer said in November De Telegraaf. She said that she did not like TV work so much lately.
