Liveblog: Israel attacks Iran

Heating costs rise significantly due to escalation in the Middle East

The major attack on Iran has increased the heating oil prices in Germany significantly. According to an analysis of the Verivox comparison portal, 100 liters of heating oil currently cost around 93 euros. In May the price was an average of 87 euros – according to Verivox, that was as little as it has not been in two years, as the newspapers of the Funke media group report.

Despite the recent price increase, it can be worth filling the tank now, the analysis says. Because in a long -term comparison, prices are still cheap. In addition, there is, according to the price comparison portal, that in addition to geopolitical uncertainty, increasing CO2 costs could continue to drive up prices next year.

Israel had started attacking Iranian nuclear facilities on Friday. The markets reacted nervously. The crude oil prices – and thus also the heating oil prices – attracted significantly. Later, large oil and gas fields in Iran were reported later.

The average price of almost 87 euros (gross) for 100 liters of heating oil determined in Germany in May results in a single -family house with a typical annual consumption of 2,000 liters according to Verivox heating costs of around 1,739 euros. There were most recent prices in May 2023. Since the price high in September 2023, when 100 liters still cost around 119 euros, heating oil prices have dropped by around 27 percent.
